“异”审美常常发生于不同民族、国度的人、事、物的接触相处中，香港社会开放性、包容性和封闭性、排斥性构成的社会张力，使香港文学的“异”审美视野独异而丰富。香港文学中的异族形象突破了单一意识形态性或乌托邦的表达，而香港本土作家笔下的异族形象比外来香港作家所写同类形象更多“同是天涯沦落人”的亲和感。香港文学最丰富地表达了中国人对西方文化的日常感受，香港作家与西方文化之间复杂的心理距离反映出香港人对于西方这一“非一”存在的认知，而香港意识正形成于香港人这一“他者视域”的言说及其超越中。香港叙事常有“越界”的流动性，不同文化空间穿插、交置，作家摆脱了以往时间性的叙事模式，更关注空间性叙事，由此呈现出“异”审美在“自我”超越中的多元魅力。
