明代中篇文言传奇小说存在单行本、合刊本及改装本三种方式,在单行本与合刊之间、或者两个合刊本之间,其文本往往发生删改变动,具体表现为:增饰故事细节,语言化雅为俗,变文为白,甚至羼入白话小说习用套语,显示出颇为清晰的接受白话小说影响的痕迹。此外,在中篇文言传奇专集《万锦情林》中,杂入了采用白话小说文体编撰的《情义姻缘》;而在白话小说集《欢喜冤家》中,又出现了模拟中篇文言传奇文体而作的《许玄之赚出重囚牢》,这两个特殊文本的存在,表明中篇文言传奇与白话小说之间的文学互动,曾经颇为活跃和深入。
