Type research is the most basic and important step in linguistic ambiguity research. Historically, research on ambiguity classification has been conducted from a variety of perspectives, with varying criteria and vague definition. Combining the internal elements with the external environment of language, this paper proposes that there are 5 types of ambiguities in modern Chinese: phonetic ambiguity, lexical ambiguity, syntactic ambiguity, semantic ambiguity and pragmatic ambiguity. Each ambiguity can be further subdivided into different subclasses. This paper will give clear definitions and criteria of various types of ambiguities so that the boundaries between the types of ambiguities are clear. And the interrelationship between the types of ambiguities will be given in detail.
