饶宗颐“形上词”说超拔高妙，对其研究多停留于知识描述理论阐述层次，而于学术史意义和学术个性则论说不足。“形上词”论蕴含着哲理和精神超越两方面的要求。饶宗颐诗学研究重视理趣，诗词创作倡导形上旨意，其要义皆在于为中国诗学补充形上之维。饶宗颐借用“向上一路”表明其诗学创新的高度自觉。“向上一路”既关乎新词境的开拓，又具有提澌人心救世之大用。作为学术界的共同财富，饶宗颐“形上词”说，与王国维“境界”说分属二十世纪中国诗学之一头一尾，是继“境界”说后的诗学理论新突破；不仅延续了古典体裁的生命，而且使其得到进一步的发展，在丰富古典体裁表现力的同时，赋予其现代意义。

Rao Zong-yi's theory of “Metaphysical Verse”is oustanding and ingenious． However，the discussions about it have stayed in the level of knowledge and theory description，and thus there have been some defects in respect of academic history and academic character． “Metaphysical Verse”opinion intrinsically contains the philosophy and the way upward of spiritual transcendence，which was aimed at adding the metaphysical dimension for Chinese poetics． As the common wealth of academia，The theory of“Metaphysical Verse”is the new breakthrough in Chinese poetics after Wang Guo-wei's theory of “Jingjie”． The theory can not only make Chinses poetics develop further and enrich its expression，but give it the significance in today society．
