Abstract

Chinese civilization is the only uninterrupted one in the world, which created a splendid “original culture” throughout the ages. However, over the past one hundred years, Chinese culture has suffered unfair treatment with criticism, and even subversion of Chinese culture having become the mainstream. Consequently, Chinese culture and the Chinese people have been labeled as being “deep-rooted weak”. The reasons for this may originate from the criticism and even slandering from some Western scholars; fueling from Western missionaries, deliberating misinterpretations from Japanese scholars, and taking these misinterpretations as true by New School scholars. In the fact , the so-called “deep-rooted weakness” of Chinese people is just a kind of irrational slander. Indeed, there are many different opinions with regard to the characteristics of Chinese culture and the “root” of it. Facing the complex conditions, the study of “Neo-Zixue” should adhere to the principle of holism, uphold the principle of making positive reviews, and use the logic of Chinese people to think about China’s issues. With an open-minded cultural perspective, we are expected to explain the “root” of Chinese culture for better solving many China’s issues. As Chinese culture advocates humanism, “Neo-Zixue” should adhere to people-oriented concept as well as putting the wisdom of the times into practice, so that a people-oriented “Neo-Zixue” can be ultimately established.
