Abstract
The Shuikou Battle in Nanxiong City was widely known as a tough battle in the history of the Red Army. The First Front Army slammed its full force against the Cantonese Army led by Chen Jitang. The battle was intense and both sides suffered heavy casualties, which were rarely seen during the Second Domestic Revolutionary War. Due to the fact that the Guangdong Army cautiously conducted military deployment and undertook a last-ditch resistance, the Red Army failed to effectively summon its superior army strength with inaccurate information received. Therefore, the Red Army did not meet its expectation and many lessons were left to learn. However, along with other battles in the southern Jiangxi Province, the campaign severely attacked the enemy troops, defended the Southern Central Soviet Area, and became the outpost of the Red Army's fourth Counter-campaign against “Encirclement and Suppression” War.
