Application of “double low” contrast media injection scheme in coronary CT angiography examination

Application of “double low” contrast media injection scheme in coronary CT angiography examination

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the feasibility of low injection volume and low concentration iodine contrast (“double low”) media injection mode in 320-slice spiral CT coronary angiography. Methods: 150 patients (83 males and 67 females) who underwent 320-slice spiral CT coronary angiography were randomly divided into three groups, 50 patients in each group. Group A used two-stage injection mode of 50 mL iopamidol injection whose mass concentration of iodine is 370 mg/mL, group B used three-stage injection mode of 39 mL iopamidol injection, and group C used three-stage injection mode of 39 mL iodixanol injection whose mass concentration of iodine is 320 mg/mL. The CT values, signal to noise ratio, and contrast to noise ratio of main blood vessels were measured and compared. All obtained images were diagnosed by two senior radiologists. Results: There were no significant differences in age, BMI, body weight, heart rate, CT value of superior vena cava, noise value of aortic root, SNR, CNRRCA1 and CNRLM among the three groups (P>0.05). CT values of right atrium, right ventricle, aortic root, pulmonary artery, RCA1, LM and ventricular wall showed statistical significance among the three groups (P<0.05), and the value in group A was higher than that in group B and C. A total of 1822 coronary artery segments were evaluated in the three groups. The image quality scores of coronary artery segments were (1.22±0.53), (1.21±0.51), and (1.27±0.64), respectively. There was no significant difference among the three groups ( 2=0.782, P=0.676). Conclusion: It is feasible to perform coronary angiography in 320-slice spiral CT with low injection volume and low concentration of iodine (320 mg/mL) contrast media.
