In response to the problems in the initial appointment of judges in China, the 18th CPC Central Committee had adopted the reform proposals such as selection from law professors and lawyers, the establishment of judge selection committee, the diversification of selection standards, the level-by-level selection, the flexible increase of the age of appointment, and the authorization of the reform exploration local government. In this regard, Guangdong Province has conducted an experimental reform based on the local situation including the proportions of different sources of judge candidates, the composition and operating procedures of the judge selection committee, selection criteria and procedures, and age and qualifications. These local reform methods have provided useful experience for subsequent judicial reforms, as well as for the amendment of the Organic Law of People's Courts and Judges Law of PRC.
